The department of Zoology was introduced in the college in 2005 along with the department of Botany, Physics and Chemistry with a vision to enhance the science education in the area. The department is a constituent entity of the faculty of science. From the beginning it has been the foremost department of learning in all aspects of animal sciences ranging from animal physiology, genetics, evolutionary biology and reproductive biology with modern equipped and sophisticated instrumentation. Also with many applied branches and skill development areas such as apiculture that plays an important role in economic development of the area. Besides teaching effort given to students to obtain BSC degree, co-circular and extra-curricular activities are conducted by the department from time to time such as zoological trips, study tours to national parks and wildlife sanctuaries. These tours train the students to gain practical experience and on spot understanding the behaviour of different wild animals which pave way for the motivation to pursue higher studies. The department is run by qualified and competitive faculty which is headed by Dr. Mohammad Amin Lone. The department has about 150 students in all the semesters.

  • To emerge as an excellent department of teaching and research and sensitize human society for animal welfare and protection of biodiversity.
  • To perpetuate value based education favorable to the progress of students and society so as to promote peace and harmony.

  • Our mission is to prepare responsible trained manpower in animal sciences, teaching and research.
  • We are committed to impart quality education and to inculcate amongst students discipline, morality, ethics and national integration.
  • We want students to make optimum use of the resources available.

Building area and labs facilities:

The Zoology department has set up of two labs, one small store room and a faculty room. The labs are meant for the purpose of conducting the regular practical classes for all the semesters of B. sc. The labs are well equipped and have all the sophisticated instrumentation which includes sufficient microscopes and scientific instruments for conducting the practical classes.

A well established animal museum is arranged for keeping specimen’s and models of different animals which are most useful to the students.

Strength: A well spaced department with good ventilation and well equipped laboratory, museum, computers with internet facility and a projector with equipped lecture theatres with multimedia projectors. One of Laboratory has been set as an elaborate museum for advanced research to meet the practical requirement of the curriculum. The department has well qualified and experienced staff with international recognition in teaching and research. Computer with internet facility is made available to the faculty and the students. Latest journals are subscribed to the students. We use audio-visual aids including power point (PPT) slides for the classroom teaching. OHP and ICT computer aided teaching is in practice. Other teaching methods like group discussions, Projector and computer aided teaching are being followed. The teachers actively participate in academic and personal counseling of the students to help them overcome problems if any and improve their overall personality development. The department has semester scheme of examination with 30% internal assessment. Students are continuously assessed through tests in theory, seminars, subjects and laboratory practical’s and assignments. Students are also encouraged to participate in project work and give presentations on the topics of their choice. In addition almost all equipments necessary for research work are available.
