About the Department

It is a matter of great pleasure that the Department of Botany has been trying hard to achieve the excellence in academic enhancement.  In order to maintain the momentum of quality consciousness, the Department has undertaken several academic activities during the year 2021-22.  The academic environment of the Department was stimulated to enhance the quality of teaching and learning. The Department has undertaken various activities throughout the session.
With the help of teachers and the regular faculty we have completed the prescribed syllabus in due time.  Regular assessment of students was also done through class test, seminars and discussions. The guest lectures by eminent Scientists and Professors were also organized for the benefit of student community.
The faculty members published their research work in scientific journals and attended National and International conferences.  At this juncture I appreciate the efforts made by all teaching and non-teaching members and students of the Department to keep pace with quality for better excellence. Hope, we all contribute to the society through the pursuit of Education, Learning and Research at the highest level of Excellence as envisaged in our mission.

Welcome to the Department of Botany at Government Degree College Uri, Baramulla. Our department is committed to providing a comprehensive education in plant sciences, fostering research, and promoting environmental awareness. We strive to create an engaging and supportive learning environment that encourages academic excellence and personal growth.

Our curriculum is designed to offer a deep understanding of plant biology, ecology, and conservation. We aim to equip our students with the knowledge and skills necessary to address the challenges of the modern world, particularly in the areas of environmental sustainability and biodiversity conservation. AIMS AND OBJECTIVES OF THE DEPARTMENT
  1. To achieve academic excellence in basic and applied aspects of plant sciences.
  2. To impart basic and advanced education to students through teaching, learning, research and evaluation.
  3.  To motivate the students to undertake research in basic and applied thrust areas of plant sciences.
  4. To inculcate scientific awareness towards protecting diversity and Eco-environmental management of plant resources for sustainable development.
  5. To inspire the students towards better understanding and use of IT/ Computer oriented interphase.
INSTRUMENTATION
The Botany Laboratory, Department of Botany, GDC Uri is well equipped with sophisticated instrumentation to carry out wide range of experimentation for student community.
The following Equipments and Instruments are present in the Botany Laboratory:
  • Laminar Air Flow.
  • Autoclave.
  • Refrigerator for cooling.
  • Hot Air Oven.
  • Centrifuge.
  • Soil Testing Kit.
  • Hot Plate.
  • Soxhlet Apparatus.
  • PH Meter.
  • Digital PH Meter.
  • Microscopes.
  • Dissection Microscopes.
  • Binocular Microscopes.
Besides, the Laboratory also contains various plant specimen of Algae, Bryophytes, Pteridophytes, Gymnosperms, Angiosperms etc.
