Department of Zoology

History

The department of Zoology was introduced in the college in 2005 along with the department of Botany, Physics and Chemistry with a vision to enhance the science education in the area. The department is a constituent entity of the faculty of science. From the beginning it has been the foremost department of learning in all aspects of animal sciences ranging from animal physiology, genetics, evolutionary biology and reproductive biology with modern equipped and sophisticated instrumentation. Also with many applied branches and skill development areas such as apiculture that plays an important role in economic development of the area. Besides teaching effort given to students to obtain BSC degree, co-circular and extra-curricular activities are conducted by the department from time to time such as zoological trips, study tours to national parks and wildlife sanctuaries. These tours train the students to gain practical experience and on spot understanding the behaviour of different wild animals which pave way for the motivation to pursue higher studies. The department is run by qualified and competitive faculty which is headed by Dr. Mohammad Amin Lone. The department has about 150 students in all the semesters.
