Overview of the Department

The dynamic approaches of New Education Policy 2020 aims at sustainable development by fostering quality learning to the students targeting the India’s development in global market. Imparting professional teaching to students was thought to be quite important at higher education level, thus potentiating the multidisciplinary and holistic education system. India being an agrarian country with its 20% of GDP contributed by agriculture and allied sectors; there is an obvious need for generation of more skillfull graduates for increasing the country’s agricultural productivity and boosting economy. Veterinary and animal husbandry sector is a flourishing market for India with animal husbandry contributing to 4.11% to GDP and 25.6% to agricultural GDP. Animal husbandry is a major source of livelihood and has many untapped areas with the potential to grow and support the Indian economic sector. The UT of Jammu and Kashmir is home to a number of livestock species and history of animal rearing dates back to ancient times. Animal rearing provides substantial employment opportunities to majority of rural populations of J&K including Uri. Therefore, imparting veterinary and agriculture education can help in developing the entrepreneurial skills to graduates creating the new business opportunities. In this college, the areas of dairy farming, milk technology, sheep rearing, etc., is taught thoroughly with scientific approaches via professional veterinary doctors with an aim towards holistic development of the society.

       Vision:
  1. To impart quality education in Veterinary Technology to students of the college.
  2. To develop human resource so as to develop entrepreneurship mindset among students for self sufficiency in future.
  3. Dissemination of technical knowhow among students about various fields of animal husbandry.
  4. To inculcate among students research temperament by initializing new skill training programs.
  5. Mission
  6. To develop Veterinary Technology as major subject at higher education level enabling the college to become a hub for large multidisciplinary teaching so as to develop a more vibrant community of scholars.
  7. To provide skill based education of Veterinary and Animal husbandary enabling self sufficiency.
  8. To encourage self-evaluation, personality development, and guide the students to strive for perfection and competence.
  9. Creating a research base in the university to work on the thrust areas for the benefits of the farmers and stakeholders.

  11. To develop excellent laboratory infrastructure for improved teaching and learning to students.
  12. To organize workshops in various veterinary colleges utilising the expertise of their faculty members.
  13. To organise conferences and seminars and enable the student-student and student-teacher interactions with an aim to prepare students vibrant and highly competent.
