The IQAC of the Govt. Degree College Uri celebrated the National Science Day on -28th February, 2024 in the college auditorium. At the outset Dr. Sharief Ud Din Khan, Principal of the college welcomed the audiences and presented the backdrop of the day. He Said that National Science Day in India has its roots in the significant scientific achievement of Sir Chandrasekhara Venkata Raman, one of the country’s most eminent physicists. Sir C.V. Raman’s discovery was a monumental breakthrough in the field of physics.
Dr. Shamas Ud Din Ahangar HOD Education and coordinator IQAC highlighted that In 1986, the Government of India, under then Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi, designated February 28 as National Science Day to commemorate the announcement of the discovery of the “Raman Effect”. This was the discovery which won physicist Sir CV Raman his Nobel Prize in 1930. He also remarked that National Science Day is highly significant as it serves various purposes. Firstly, it raises awareness about the significance of science and its practical applications in everyday life. It highlights the contributions and accomplishments of Indian scientists, serving as an inspiration for upcoming generations to pursue scientific pursuits. Additionally, National Science Day facilitates conversations on scientific matters, advocates for the adoption of new technologies, and promotes public involvement with science and technology.
Dr. Bashir Ahmad Dar presented the objectives of the day and said that National Science Day aims to: Raise public awareness: The day catalyzes igniting public interest in science and its applications in everyday life. Celebrate scientific achievements: It provides a platform to acknowledge and celebrate the contributions of Indian scientists to various fields of science and technology. The proceedings of the programme were conducted by Prof. Naushad Ahmad and presented vote of thanks.
