The Govt. Degree College Uri celebrated the National Constitution Day -2024 on 26-11-2024 at 11:00 AM in the college. The programme was attended by 80 faculty and student participants. Worthy Principal of the college Dr. Zahoor Ahmad welcomed the participants with the remarked that our country India is observing Constitution Day today, November 26, to commemorate the historic adoption of the Indian Constitution in 1949. Also known as Samividhan Divas, this day serves as a reminder of the core values of justice, liberty, equality, and fraternity, which continue to shape the nation’s democratic framework. The day also marks the 133rd birth anniversary of Dr. BR Ambedkar, the principal architect of the Constitution. Dr. Ambedkar’s role in drafting the Constitution has left an indelible mark on India’s democracy, with his vision guiding the country’s laws and principles. On this special day, let us pledge to fulfill our duties as responsible citizens and cherish our rights. Happy Constitution Day” “May the guiding principles of our Constitution lead us toward progress, justice, and harmony. He also added that Constitution Day is not a public holiday. Various departments of the Government of India celebrated the first Constitution day. As per the Department of Education and Literacy, the preamble of the constitution was read in all schools by all students. In addition, there were quiz and essay competitions both online and offline on the subject of the constitution of India. There was a lecture on salient features of the constitution in each school. The Department of Higher Education requested various universities to arrange mock parliamentary debates in colleges, and the University Grants Commission (UGC)

Dr. Shamas Ud Din Ahangar HOD Education highlighted the importance of National Constitution Day and said that on this day in 1949, the Indian Constitution was formally adopted, laying the foundation for India as a sovereign, democratic republic. It came into effect on January 26, 1950, now celebrated as Republic Day.

The observance of Constitution Day underscores the transformative journey of India from colonial rule to a progressive democracy. It serves as a reminder of the responsibilities that come with rights and emphasizes the role of citizens in fostering a more inclusive and equitable society. Dr Ambedkar, revered as the “father of the Indian Constitution,” once said, “The Constitution is not a mere lawyer’s document; it is a vehicle of life, and its spirit is always the spirit of the age.” His words resonate deeply as India reflects on its democratic legacy and aspirations. Later HOD Political Science read the ‘Preamble’ to the Constitution of India on the occasion of ‘Constitution Day’ i.e. the 26th of November 2024 (Tuesday) at 11.00 AM at Govt. Degree College Uri campus.
